Money Laundering Probe: Sur Finanzas' Luxurious Branches Mysteriously Close

Buenos Aires, December 14 (NA) -- Several of the branches opened in recent months by the company Sur Finanzas are being investigated for a suspected money laundering scheme that could involve the president of the AFA, Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, and the entity's treasurer, Pablo Toviggino. Many of these branches were very luxurious, with great amenities, but mysteriously closed after two months. Noticias Argentinas agency gained access to videos of one of those branches, showing the luxury of the waiting room, the employee service area, the manager's office, and even the safety deposit boxes. This is the Plaza Plaza de Mayo branch, located at Avenida Presidente Julio Argentino Roca 502 (diagonal Sur) and BolĂvar, right on the corner. That office was open for about two months - now there is a shop selling products made from chocolate and dulce de leche. When it opened, it showed great luxury. Still, no customers came, two or three a day at best, a source close to the firm told NA. 'The safety deposit boxes were so luxurious that no bank had them like that.'
